Welcome Colorado !!
The Land of Adventure”

Mary M Tomky - Colorado Executive DirectorMary M. Tomky is the Interim Executive Director of the Colorado U.S. Route 6 Tourist Association. She has been an active member of the Association since Joe Hurley walked through Holyoke back in 2004.

Mary is also the Executive Director of the Holyoke Chamber of Commerce and works closely with the community.

Mary is a very busy person as the Secretary / Treasurer of the Colorado U.S. Route 6 Heritage Corporation. Their goal is to establish a Regional US Route 6 Museum and Visitors Center in Holyoke. This has become a real challenge, however, they should have their Not-for-profit IRS 501(c)(3) within the near future. This is all part of their heritage awareness program to encourage vacation travelers to take the “6” and preserve our American Heritage along the Grand Old Highway. This is also part of the U.S. Route 6 Tourist Association’s effort to establish Regional Museums and Visitor Centers in all 14 Route 6 states.

Living in a small town she is aware of the need to establish new businesses that can provide employment opportunities for graduating high school and college students. She would welcome hearing from Sr. high school and college students that would be interested in the Association’s Internship Program.

If you are interested in being an active member or would like information about the Association contact Mary Tomky at Colorado@Route6tour.com
or at the Holyoke Chamber of Commerce at; holyokec@pctelcom.coop

NEW EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR IN NEBRASKA!
GO HUSKERS!

Jerry Johnson - Executive Director Nebraska

Welcome Jerry Johnson the newly appointed Executive Director of the Nebraska U.S. Route 6 Tourist Association. Jerry returned to his hometown of Sutton, Nebraska in 2005 after 44 years, most of which was spent with the U.S. Air Force, retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel.
He immediately became involved in the local historical society and is currently on the Tourism and Publicity Committee of the Sutton Chamber of Commerce.

“Route 6 was a critical transportation and communications link in the development of Nebraska and neighboring states. I hope to preserve the memory of that contribution and look forward to working with the citizens of Nebraska to make the Cornhusker portion of Route 6 the central hub of the Association and the extended Route 6 community.”

A major challenge for the Nebraska Association is to create economic growth in the inner cities, small towns and rural communities. Jerry invites others to join the team as active members and believes we can prepare a bright future for the young people now living along the Grand Old Highway.

High school and college students are encouraged to join the Association’s internship program. There are no membership dues for full-time students or active military personnel.

A special "Thank You" to James R. Hendricks, composer and performer of our theme song, "Long Lonesome Highway".  You can download the song, free, for your personal enjoyment by visiting Maple Street Music.

When we first started six years ago, the high school students were looking for music to go with the web site.

The player above requires Flash Player, we also have a link to the source MP3 file of Long Lonesome Highway by Jim Hendricks
